Marine Carpenter

Overview

To carry out any required Marine carpentry work to the required standards which includes the exterior and the interior of the boats.

Specific Skills
  • Knowledge of tools/machines skills.
  • Knowledge of basic woodwork skills.
  • Knowledge of interior/exterior finishing skills.
  • Pass the skills test.
  • Pass the appraisal form at induction (level 3).
Responsible For
  • Examine drawings and sketches to determine work required in a particular job. Identification and utilization of templates.
  • Carry out carpentry work as directed, including minor repairs to furniture and equipment.
  • Maintain competence in the use of drills, saws, sanders, planes, general maintenance work in carpentry and joinery.
  • Select tools appropriate for the job to be carried out.
  • Prepare lists of materials required for construction and maintenance work.
  • Select and measure cuts of wood appropriate for the work to be carried out.
  • Check accuracy of work carried out using appropriate measuring tools.
  • Maintain an awareness of all health and safety rules applying to carpentry and tools used to ensure that safe working practices are observed.
Additional Requirements
  • An ability to work as part of a team and with a minimum of supervision.
  • Basic level of English language.
  • Noticeable improvement by end of probation period.
Educational Requirements
  • A relevant craft qualification.
