Overview

Fiberglass Laminators and Fabricators laminate layers of fiberglass on molds to form boat decks, hulls and small parts.

Specific Skills
  • Knowledge of GRP materials and processes.
  • Knowledge of pneumatic spray guns and chopper guns.
  • Pass all skill tests.
Responsible For
  • Spray chopped fiberglass, resins, and catalysts onto prepared molds using pneumatic spray guns, chopper guns, or apply by hand lamination.
  • Select pre-cut fiberglass mats, cloth, and wood-bracing materials as required by the projects being assembled.
  • Laminate layers of GRP mat or cloth into place on molds and forms, using brushes, rollers, and applicators to reduce wrinkles and air bubbles by following the correct technique.
  • Mix catalysts into resins, and saturate cloth and mats with mixtures, using brushes.
  • Apply layers of GRP to mold surfaces prior to placement of fiberglass mats, repeating layers until products have met the correct lamination specification and resins have gelled.
  • Bond wood reinforcing strips to decks and cabin structures of vessels using resin-saturated fiberglass.
