Overview

Upholsters make and repair boat interiors with soft, padded textile covering features, such as seats, sun bead and all interiors. This involves choosing, measuring, cutting, fitting, and sewing fabric and leather materials. Upholsterers work on household furnishings, and in the interior of boats.

Specific Skills
  • Pass all skill tests.
Responsible For
  • Determine best Marine grade materials to use.
  • Make and take measurements of the design and upholstery to be made.
  • Make Boat Sofas, cushions, beds, padded textiles.
  • Make or repair timber frames.
  • Finish and stain wooden surfaces.
  • Add and remove springs, padding, webbing, and coverings.
  • Measure, cut, and trim materials.
  • Cover furniture with padding, webbing, installing foam and materials.
  • Attach trims and buttons.
Additional Requirements
  • The ability to stand, walk, and move for up to eight hours per day.
  • Must pass criminal background check and drug testing.
  • Previous experience with upholstery or furniture manufacturing.
  • Preferable working experience in the marine industry.
Educational Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience with upholstery or furniture manufacturing.
